Since Jay has started busy season, we have been trying to do fun things every weekend. We had talked about going to Trail Dust Town this weekend, but after we went to a birthday party at a sushi restuarant on Friday evening and then Jay worked 5.5 hours on Saturday, we decided to walk to the wash near us to have a lower-key family activity.
It was an adventure to get down there and then Jay actually pushed the empty stroller up a very steep embankment and over a wall at one point. We decided to find a good place to watch the sunset. Utah sunsets are no comparison to Arizonan ones. It was beautiful.
I mentioned the night before we went to sushi for Rachel's birthday party. We got an appetizer of gyoza. That was good, but no one liked it as much as Theo.
Later they rang a gong and lit a candle that spit lots of flames. Rachel gasped and jumped in surprise :)
She shared the fried ice cream and tried to give her cherry to Theo. He loved the ice cream so much that he refused to even try the cherry. He was just so excited, pointing at the ice cream, he wouldn't even look at anything else. His great grandpa Carpenter loved ice cream so much too.
Some general Theo updates:
Theo loves to be like Mommy and Daddy.
A few days ago he found one of Jay's watches and put it around 1 wrist, using the other hand to hold it on as he wandered all over the house.
He has 3 wooden puzzles which he loves. In just the past few months he has gone from playing with the pieces and watching me do the puzzles to getting some pieces to fit. Often he can match the first few of the farm puzzle (no matter which I give him) and then must get tired and the rest he typically places in the correct spot on the puzzle board, but doesn't twist them to fit. He also can get a few from his shapes puzzle.
We have been hesitant to declare him really speaking, but we think that he is definitely now.
His words (in order of appearance): doggie, Daddy, cheese.
Words he does not say: Mommy
But that is okay, especially considering how much he really cares about me. I hear many toddler boys don't want to sit still with their mommies. Provided I am sitting upright, he loves cuddling with me (reclining Mommy is a jungle gym. If her eyes are shut, he thinks he needs to flail his limbs around extra hard).
Theo still loves books. He likes to bring me books and we just sit on the floor wherever I am and we read. He loves Giraffes Can't Dance, Barnyard Dance, Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskerville's Sound Primer, and Guess How Much I Love You, and others.
He is sleeping a lot better now at night.
He found a sponge outside on Jay's workbench and immediately began wiping the outside table with it. He seemed so happy to have a sponge to wipe with. I guess he really does watch as I do dishes.
Jay got him up. He got a death grip on the nursing pillow and a sweater thing of mine and brought them both to me. Yes, he walks just fine in his sleep sack.
He is always pilfering things out of the recycle bin. He likes soy sauce as much as his daddy.
I came out to see that Theo had gotten up there all by himself. That is Daddy's kneeling chair and his desk. Theo even knows how a mouse works.
At the wash
The ground was squishy and uneven
