California trip, Grandma's 90th Birthday party

We drove to California for Jay's grandma's 90th birthday party, and what a party it was.

If I understood correctly, every descendant of hers was in attendance, plus extras (like me).

The next day we drove to Lancaster. We met up with Jay's dad and Annie and Happy and then went over to see Grandma and Mitsu. They fed us cherries, steak sandwiches, chips, and rice crackers. We left happy and full. Theo loved playing with a toy giraffe amd giving it kisses. He also liked a teddy bear and playing outside on a ramp leading up to Grandma's door.

Natalie and her family went to Sea World on Friday but then we got to see them that night. Andy introduced Theo to In N Out Burger. Theo mostly just ate the fries and played with his Hot Wheels that I had brought him from home (Andy sent them awhile ago. They are from his collection).

We also got to meet Aunty Gwen and Uncle John in person. They are so nice. Jay is the only grandchild who plays guitar and so Aunt Gwen gave him a family heirloom guitar. It was passed on from Jay's Dad's Aunt Eleanor. While taking photos of it, Jay found a serial number on it. According to the Internet, it is a 1925 guitar, so Aunt Eleanor must have gotten it used. It is a beautiful, well cared for antique. She also gave me a watch. Theo likes it too. He thinks watches are so interesting.

Saturday Theo got to see all his cousins on his dad's side. Amber's family arrived late Friday so we got all the cousins together for swimming at the hotel. Then we hurried back to our rooms to get ready for the party.

We met at Sakura, an Asian buffet. We had a room to ourselves and about 24 people in attendance. We met more relatives. Theo hadn't eaten well the entire trip. I think he has been too excited to eat, so it has mostly been milk and crackers and some fruit. I got a plate of food and Theo insisted I leave the plate to go back to the buffet. He said, "Chicken!" and led me to some fried fish. I got him some and he contentedly ate all but 1 bite.

We sang to Grandma. And got photos, hopefully lots of good ones.

Right at the end before we left Theo got attached to Megan. Where he had been very clingy to me before, he was suddenly hugging Megan and wanting to cuddle. Later that night we went to a mall inside play place and both Megan and Sakura were Theo's guardian angels, helping him climb and making sure he didn't run off.

At 4 p.m. we skyped with relatives from Japan. It was 8 a.m. their time so Dad taught us how to say Good Morning in Japanese.

On Sunday we went to church with Grandma. It was a very nice service. I ended up in a Cry Room with Theo. It worked. The audio was fed into the room, but I asked and no one could hear Theo screaming while we were in it. And yes, the lettering on the door really said, "Cry Room."

Grandma took us out to brunch. Mitsu bought the kids stuffed animals. Theo picked a tiny horse.

Jay and Andy went to a Cadillac car show.

I love that doggie shirt

Flipping through channels, Theo has good taste

Milk break after that big fish stick.

Mitsu

He sat with Daddy and tried to pick the sprinkles off the top of a brownie. Jay said it kept him very busy.

Showing Grandma the "Labbit" they found. (The rabbit figurine was labeled "Labbit.")

Theo just crawled into my lap as I added this photo. I asked him who it was and he said, "Grandma." He knows.

I noticed she was eating dessert with chopsticks. I think I will have to try that too.

I think this was the best photo of Seth all day

You hang 1 of these outside for every boy you have every year on a certain holiday in Japan. Ours currently is in our kitchen.

Best picture of Seth all day
