We knew he had chronic kidney disease, but it progressed faster than we had hoped, even with Jay working hard to get him to eat his special diet.
That week he had stopped eating much, even when offered his usual food, and even didn't drink much. On Wednesday we saw a vet to confirm that it was his time. She gave him some fluids so he could be more comfortable before we scheduled for an in-home euthanasia on Friday morning.

And so on Thursday we had his last hurrah.
We went on a family walk together. Jay mostly carried Little Foot, but he got down and walked a little bit of it. The girls brought their own dog stuffed animals -- Wendy has the red one and Miri the yellow dog.
He ate rare steak. He rode in the car with his head out the window, just a little. He wasn't that interested. We went to the nearby park and remembered all the other times we went there with him. Everyone gave him big snuggles. In fact, Theo spent half the night sleeping with him. Little Foot didn't normally snuggle like that with Theo. We sang him the songs "Snuggle Puppy" and the Little Foot Song, and Jay made him do the "Paw Paw" dance to the tune of the Can Can. He hated dancing. Everyone gave him treats. And we said goodbye. That night my parents picked Theo up for a sleepover, then they took him to his very last day of kindergarten on Friday.
He got to pass away with the vet's help at home.
