The kids stalling at bedtime
Miri: But Mommy, how will I be a grown-up? I don't know how to drive a car and which buttons to push.
Me, tired from too many call backs to her room: You have time to learn. You aren't allowed for another 14, no 12 years.
Miri: But I don't know how to count years. Can you teach me how to count years?
Wendy: Why do grownups know so many things?
Me: So we can take care of each other. Goodnight.
Pool Jealousy
Saturday at the pool Theo and Miriam were having the best time.
Theo said, "3!"
Miri said, "2!"
Theo said, "1!"
And they both said, "Jump!" and then would jump in from the side, laughing.
Wendy got really sad. She explained to me that she hated jumping in because then her head went under the water. But it looked like so much fun and she was missing it, but she really didn't want to do it with them.
Theo even came over and tried to make some suggestions on ways she could participate, but she didn't want to. We talked about how sometimes we both feel jealous but also don't actually want to do the thing yet.
Jay fixed the air vent while we were at the pool for 1 hour 45 minutes. The girls were exhausted. That's a lot of swimming. Wendy in general had a good time. Neighbors came and played with her.
I'm so grateful for Jay and the work he put in on our air vents. And our toilet which broke too. And our ice machine in the freezer.
Miriam is able to get dive toys down from the bottom of the 6 ft pool and can swim short distances. I watch her carefully, but she isn't at all afraid. They all had swim lessons from Parks and Rec and had a great time. The girls were at the same level and I worried that they would be treated the same, but their teacher knew them apart, despite matching swim suits and, let's be honest, kids look a lot more similar in the water. He had them working at their own levels and got Wendy to put her face in the water and worked more advanced with Miriam.
Theo also had a good time and learned some good techniques with strokes and breathing patterns.

We were at the playground and ended up going into the pool area to use the bathroom. The girls really wanted to swim, but it looked stormy so they just touched the water before we left.

Start your garden in a glove kit from the library. Wendy had a great time planting.

Miri earned ice cream and did not pick The Screamery or Dairy Queen either, but Wendy talked her into going to Wendy's. They got triple berry Frosties. Theo got chocolate.

Wendy was having Chucky play Hoot, Owl, Hoot with us. Jay has pointed out that Chucky is a weird name for a child's toy, but it's too late. Wendy loves the name. At least she didn't name a doll Chucky.

They have matching skirts on their dresses. It's a bit hard to tell with the elephant ball toy in the way of Miri's skirt.
