September

This month the kids really settled in with school. Full day kindergarten was a big adjustment and we did a lot of low key stuff in the afternoons with the girls when they got home. At the first parent teacher conferences all the teachers said my kids were well behaved and smart. It is nice that both of the girls teachers were really impressed with both of their reading skills. Miri is at a first grade level and Wendy is halfway through kindergarten level. So it was nice that they both got to shine, and not just Miri for being better. Wendy's a better skater and better at roller skating and spends hours coloring and drawing with concentration that you don't see in kids that age. Also, it's not a competition.

Theo has a teacher who was convinced to come out of retirement and he seems to be learning and enjoying the class. It's the same group of kids each year, and this year has been the best with him not complaining about friend drama or other kids who interrupt. It sounds like the class is under control.

She got picked first for student of the month. She's a head shorter than most of the others in her class. It was good to see her.

Miri likes to get to church early to hug Grandma at the organ, and then can say hello to Granddad on the stand before coming to sit on the pew with our family. I thought it was so cute that I was able to get a photo of the 3 of them from where I was sitting, even if it was from far away.

Happy birthday, Jay!

I think they were watching clouds moving in the wind

School picture day. The official ones didn't come out too great. Theo was too busy running to see Rachel at the bus stop for me to grab a photo of him.

Miri skating

Wendy so fast she's blurry. Miri in the background is clearer.

I didn't get a video, but Theo entered the skating race for kids his age. It was crowded and 1/3 of the way through, 2 kids near Theo fell and knocked Theo down. Theo turned a controlled somersault on the ground to roll directly back onto his skates and kept going!
He wasn't the fastest skater, but that was the coolest jiu-jitsu style fall and fast recovery. He finished middle of the pack. We would have to skate more often that every 6 months for him to get better.
